Most of my skiing is on groomers 50%, glades 25% & icy chop 25%(Ontario crap weather). It loves to make quick movements and really reacts well to skier input. Want a ski that I control vs it controlling me if that makes sense. What ski to get I'm considering Mantra M5s to complement my DPS A112 Wailer 184 for ski days with firmer conditions, lack of off pist snow and for generally working on my carving, turning, downhill skiing on piste. The QST 99 is quick, playful, and responsive. The extended tip rocker goes well with the low tail profile, creating a good blend of grip in the carve as well as playful flotation. I ski around Tahoe and am currently using some Atomic Slim Daddys which I plan to keep for on piste. The Pinnacle has a longer tip rocker profile, so is a bit better of a floater than the Rustler in powder. Arguably a bit much for the terrain park, but we've seen some of Fischer's athletes ripping this thing in the park, which is a nod to its playful nature and versatility. You could argue that it's more modern construction, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Skill: Intermediate (I ski groomed advanced and some tree runs) Characteristics of an advanced skier would be: the ability to ski most, if not all trails, an ability to ski fast, regular ability to ski off trail, and more traditionally, the ability to link full carving turns at full speed. Then rocker technology came along, and, long story short, theres way more room for preference and interpretation than ever before. If you love the power and precision of a dual-metal laminate ski, but want something slightly easier to ski, the Maverick 100 Ti is a great choice. That said, you might not get the same "playful" feeling from the E100 in the softer snow, so it's a bit of a tradeoff. Intermediate: Congratulations! This, combined with the vertical sidewall underfoot tapering to half-cap in the tips and tails makes for an incredibly versatile ski that is properly built for the everyday advanced skier. Hope that helps! I'm a snowboarder of 20yrs (hike, pop off features, no park etc), getting deep into skiing the past 5 or 6. While most skis out there have a speed limit, these have a speed minimum. On your list, I like the sounds of the QST 99, especially for it's on-trail capabilities. Youre that good at skiing. I mostly stay on the groomers but do a little of piste and like to carve it up. Between the Enforcer and Mantra, the Volkl has more of an on-trail and carving personality while the Enforcer has some freeride tendencies for softer snow and crud. Have fun! Erik, Hi Erik! Willkommen bei unserer vollstndigen bersicht des Fritschi freeride. SE, Hi. Cross-country pole sizing is easy as well. In your description of your skiing, I got the impression you spend a fair amount of time on groomers and like to ski somewhat fast sometimes (Birds of Prey is what comes to mind). For classic or touring poles, the correct size pole should reach your armpit. I had in mind either the QST 92&99 or the Rustler 9&10 are there any other skis that might fit my needs better? I am so glad one of my colleagues told me about your reviews on YouTube, because they have inspired me to finally replace my 2012 Volkl Mantras. I value maneuverability and quickness over pure speed and I'm definitely not the most aggressive skier on the mountain anymore. Have fun! (occasional Alps) and looking for a replacement to my Atomic automatics 102s at 188 . On the high-performance end of the spectrum, the Blizzard Bonafide 97 hardly needs any introduction anymore. Ultimately, with this ZX 100, its all about the tip shape and profile, and how they combine to handle the softer snow. I have been skiing on K2 Amp Phantom 160's since about 2013. 5'10" 185lb I'm looking for something that can handle both hard and soft snow well, but not looking for something on either end of the spectrum. So ive decided to invest in some 100mm all mountain skis. This is the number that our ski techs will use to mount your bindings. Hope that helps! I guess id be more toward the beginner side of intermediate. They will chatter at speeds on the hard pack. Great review! The flex pattern is also one of the softest in this category, which really boosts the ski's forgiveness in variable snow conditions and tricky terrain. The 192 bumps it up to 22 m, so these things are equally as comfortable going straight as they are in a more turny format. It's one of the ones without any structural metal to it, relying on Fischer's Air Core with carbon nose to generate quickness and edge grip. I live close to a hill that has mixed conditions throughout the season in Wyoming but I also have a short distance to travel for resorts known for good powder. Fitting cross country skis is different then fitting alpine skis. I've demoed a few of these skis; M5 Mantra, Enforcer 100 and Head Kore 105(aware its out of this category) and wanted to get your thoughts on the 2020 Rustler 10 vs the 2019? For example, East Coast skiers may have visions of skiing wide open powder fields, but the reality is that 9/10 theyll have to navigate tight trees before finding their 100 yard straight shot of glory. Twice as good as snowboarding, obviously, as we have twice the number of edges. Getting down to the final few candidates but curious on your advice to make a final decision. Im looking at the QST 99s, Rustler 10s, and Sky 7HDs but open to suggestions. The boot sole length is the literal length from toe to heel of that boot, measured in millimeters. Skill wise, youll be able to control your speed with snowplowing, wedging, or forming a pizza. Because it's lighter, it's going to be easier to maneuver compared to some of the heavier skis in this article. Performs really well on firm snow, but is also fairly capable in soft snow. They enable me to carve tight lines, make broad arcs across the trail, and float/cut through powder/variable snow; these do it all with ease. Advanced: This might be one of the hardest groups to identify. I've been considering Nordica Enforcer 93 and the Fischer Ranger 99Ti. Bonafide 97, Mantra 102, and Enforcer 100 are right up there in best of class in carving ability in this group. As a replacement for the Menace 98, the M-Free 99 borrows more from the wider M-Free 108 than its outgoing twin-tip brethren. You can use them most days when the snow is soft. I am a expert skier and looking to move to a new ski this year, after looking at your 2019 reviews I was thinking QST 99 or Nordica enforcer 100 or stick with bonifides? Big time ski crushes going on here at SkiEssentials.com. For more stability at speed, that does come at the price of weight, the QST is a great ski for sure. You like a ski that is unwavering at speed and as stable as it gets. The Blizzard Rustler 9 is also in that area, but is more like the Pinnacle than the Rossignol. So in the end I feel that my current ski is holding me back. That said, you don't have to be a park-style skier to enjoy it, it's kind of like a Ranger 98 Ti that's more focused on soft snow performance. Currently skiing 2018 Enforcer 100s. have fun! What ski would you recommend? Think of it as a shoe size, like a "size 11" for example. What's an appropriate length for me? But I still want something so that I can be aggressive / ski off-piste crud and powder when I want. SE, Hi SE! Turns will be slow and steady, and at the end of your time as a beginner, youll be starting to tip your skis to turn rather than pushing yourself to turn with your heels. I've read that some of you Ski The East, so any advice would be appreciated! I size up. Then parabolic shapes came along. Thanks, Hi Brian! The Bonafide is worth a look as well, with a 98 mm waist, the thing holds a really good edge. For real powder days, I'd demo something meant to handle powder. I have been thinking of getting something new that might have a bit more float in pow and playfulness in the trees, but the one other ski I have tried to date (a one-day demo of faction candide 3.0s) felt edgeless and soft. If youve looked all over and still cant find your BSL, its also acceptable to measure along the bottom of the boot from the very tip of the toe, to back of the heel- just make sure you measure in Millimeters! SE, Have you guys skied on or reviewed the 2019 Line Sick Day 104? Any others that I should be giving consideration to?, Hi Bernie! I'd say the Experience and Rustler are a bit more user-friendly while the Mantra has a leg up in terms of carving and edge grip. About the product One of the most award-winning skis to ever grace the mountain, the Atomic Bent Chetler 120 is a pillow-bashing, powder slashing ski legend. With a fantastic blend of flex and energy, the M-Free 99 can do it all for you at a very high level. Im currently on the Brahma- I believe its the 2015 and I do like it but thinking of getting a new setup- maybe slightly wider. Thanks, Jun Lee! The Enforcer is certainly a lot more stiff and demanding than the BC 100, so take that into account when sizing. Its ability to transition through different snow conditions is perhaps its most impressive attribute. It's a blast in powder, trees, and other off-piste scenarios and its lightweight feel and relatively soft flex pattern offers an important choice in this category. It's relatively lightweight, but feels a little heftier than some of the really lightweight contenders in this list. I am currently trying to decide on a pair of 100mm skis but I find it hard to decide between the blizzard rustler 10 and the nordica enforcer 100. As one of the more front-side and carving-oriented skis of this grouping, the K2 Mindbender 99 Ti is engaging, stable, and totally powerful. What do you think about those for my needs? Surely, something of this price level should perform properly, but it doesnt really do it on its ownit does require a skilled and attentive pilot to get the most out of it. This year I am looking to buy a new pair of skis and have been looking at the Sky 7, Rustler 10, QST 99, Ranger 98 and Enforcer 100. In addition, the fiberglass laminates keep things energetic and poppy throughout, while the PU is a stable and damp material. Im 60 and 195, and I mostly ski under control and not super fast. I am hoping to try a few things while I am out in big sky so I can finally and purchase something with confidence. not sure on what length to go with either. Hey SE, great article. Your boot sole length is the actual length of your ski boot, in millimeters. It is, in fact, one of the better skis weve ever tested in the tight Vermont woods, as its able to make quick and subsequent turns with a modicum of effort. Along those lines, I also really appreciate the K2 Pinnacle 95 and the LIberty Origin 96 as lighter-weight alternatives to the Enforcer/Bonafide heft. Arguably one of the most soft-snow oriented skis of this article. It also is a great ski for someone who values maneuverability and quickness over speed, as you mentioned. Your email address will not be published. My new ski should work great off piste, work ok on piste (ideally even if it is icy), turn easily so that the ski teaching will be easy. Doh! Currently skiing the 2017 Brahma in 187 (from you all of course). I loved how it busted through the crud and slush and held an edge on the corduroy. Because it's lighter, it will get deflected more than heavier skis. Atomic Bent Chetler 100s vs. Nordica Enforcer 94 Hi everyone, For the context, I have a fairly advanced ski level and have skied for the last 7 years with a pair of 2013 atomic alibi (100 cm at the skate) in 180 cm. I have not kept up with skis, considering I am currently on a set of 2002 Volkl P50's that I purchased in Whistler. Both are good skis for someone your size. Kyle, Hi Josh! After doing some more research it seemed like the Salomon QST 99 would be perfect for me. Thanks in advance. I have been spending hours reading through all of them while on Christmas vacation. You could go closer to 180 if you want to, but probably not necessary. I'm 182cm (hair under 6ft) so feeling the 180cm size could be the one rather than the 'go-longer-dude' 188cm. If you value a lighter overall ski, but don't want to give up metal, the Ranger 98 Ti is a great choice. Awesome. I don't have a ton of powder experience. That's just barely taller than you, which usually works well for the QST 99. The sick days (104)float much better than the bc (100). It's stable and stout, but has lighter and more maneuverable tips and tails, making moguls and trees a lot more accessible. I have demo'd the Liberty Origin 96 and Rustler 9. Will, Hi Will! It's like Head took race ski performance on firm snow, somehow made it super lightweight, then changed the shape to add in some versatility.
